HOW TO KILL SOMEBODY
Monologfestival 2016 & Performing Arts Festival Berlin 2017
Theaterdiscounter Berlin
At the end of the 1960s Monika Ertl, daughter of the Riefenstahl-Cameraman Hans Ertl, joins the Bolivian Liberation Army. After not only ChĂ© Guevara, but also his successor and Monika’s partner are murdered, Monika Ertl travels to Germany in 1971 and shoots the responsible Bolivian officer by her own hand. The beginning of a revenge campaign that ends deadly for her as well. The COSTA COMPAGNIE encircles the question of what it means to kill a person in a multimedia solo-performance: because of political conviction, for love, out of revenge or the pursuit of power. The essayist retrospect reflects several decades of today’s forms of political murder and examines how they are represented and instrumentalized by the media. At the same time the performer examines the memory and the perspective of the viewer of politically motivated violence and leads the the visitors back into their own memories in a participatory way. Here, the documentation meets a suggestive journey of thought.

PRESS ABOUT FESTIVAL
„Keine vorgetäuschten Dialoge mehr; die Kunst des Monologs wird neu erfunden… konzeptuell stark aufgestellt… Mehr noch als die Einzelbeiträge aber – und das ist ein echter Gewinn – wirkt das Festival selbst hier als wertschöpfender Generator. Denn dank der sorgfältigen Programmierung spannen sich Korrespondenzen zwischen den Nummern, die stärkend zurĂĽck wirken.” Berliner Zeitung 24.10.201
